Two days ago HP annouced what it is going to be my next laptop
HP Elitebook 2730p, a 1.5kg tablet pc with a 10hours battery. This has to substitute my sony vaio t.

Laptops…

I have my laptop with me at all times. My old vaio vgn-t27GP. Now is getting old. I miss a camera, a mic… but I love it. Now I have ubuntu and apart from the battery life it rocks.
I’m looking forward to buying a Macbook pro for home use. Nevertheless like small computers… like…
Sony VAIO T, sure, asus also 11″, macbook air, dell xps 13″, ….

I just installed ubuntu 8.04 in a 10Gb partition of my vaio.
I like it a lot. But… 1/2 battery life that I get with windows, no hibernation… and problems (now fixed) with sound.
I installed also firefox 3.0 and Scribefire plugin in it. Now I’m trying it to post into the blog. Looks fine, but Windows Live Writer looks much better… petty that there is no version for Linux…

Mobile me is the new service from Apple.
Take a look to the video, it is what anybody would dream of: push email, calendar, contacts… but on a @me.com domain… that’s the downside. It would be great to have it like google apps, with your own domain.

PJ: The storage device attached to the server where many websites are stored. Normally a disk failure is not catastrophic. The disk failed completely at some point during the night and we switched over to the backup storage device. After the failure and switching to the backup server, we discovered that the backup procedure had been corrupted by the earlier partial disk failure and some sites had no backup available.
PJ: We deeply apologize for this inconvenience. The server is back online and running normally again. Please reupload your files again on the server,

PJ: unfortunately the backup happened to be affected by the failure leaving files deleted

Me: Please, please please, it is possbile to retrive data from a damaged disc. Please. Specially is you are using raids plus backups… is there hope? please
PJ: it was been reported this morning from the director itself that files have been lost and that we need to face clients with this issues, we are allowed to provide additional months of hostng but I feel that this is not going to ease the lost at your end

globat sucks

I ~~have~~ had ESAN.biz site at globat.com
I got a call from my customer (ESAN) to tell me that the site was offline. I had already several problems with this hosting company… they were down quite often. I took a look… mmm
I went to the FTP and all the site was gone!!!! GONE!!
I chatted with them… The server crashed, the backup copy is corrupted. All data is gone. That’s it.
Unfortunately I don’t have a backup. It is not my responsibility I delivered the site, now is their problem… but I recommended this hosting service…. it just sucks. I’m a dead man…
I will publish the conversation with them…. but the clearly state in their legal terms:

12.2 - Customer shall be solely responsible for the development, operation, backup, and maintenance of Customer’s web site and any online store and e-commerce activities. Globat is not required to keep backups of customer sites or data at any time.
